Reverend Alonzo Autry Jr., age 81 of Chester, FL passed away on Monday evening, December 28, 2015 at Baptist Medical Center - Nassau. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Yulee with Reverend William Goode Jr., Presiding and Reverend James Payne, Officiating. Reverend Autry will be laid to rest in Oneal Cemetery. His family will receive friends on Friday from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Oxley Heard Funeral Home in Fernandina Beach.

The Rev. Alonzo Autry Jr., 81, of Chester, Fla. passed away on Monday evening, Dec. 28, 2015, at Baptist Medical Center Nassau. Born on April 12, 1934, he was the youngest and last living of three children born to the late Alonzo and Margaret Nasby Autry Sr. of Crandall.

Mr. Autry grew up in the Crandall area of Nassau County and attended Peck High School where he met his future wife, Helen Johnniemae Calhoun. Mr. Autry began working in the wood yard at ITT Rayonier in 1951 and retired as an engineer in the power plant in 1995. As Mr. Autry worked in the pulp industry, his wife worked at Faircloth’s Crab Plant in Fernandina as well as a foodservice manager at the Yulee Middle and Junior High Schools. In addition to Mr. Autry’s work at Rayonier he served the community as a Minister filling the pulpits of Greater St. Matthews Baptist Church in Folkston, Ga., Yulee First Baptist Church and for the past 30 years as pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Chester.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Charles Albert Sr. and his sister Alice Thomas.
Rev. Autry leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Helen Johnniemae Calhoun Autry, Chester, Fla.; their nine children Marie Autry, Fernandina Beach, Fla., Alonzo Autry III and his wife Sukchit, Yulee, Fla., Frank Autry and his wife Lessie, Jacksonville, Fla., Gary Autry and his wife Nanette, Fernandina Beach, Fla., Margaret Davis and her husband Alexander, Fernandina Beach, Fla., Antonio Autry and his wife Tami, Fernandina Beach, Fla., Phyllis Autry, Yulee, Fla., Michael Autry, Yulee, Fla., Daryl Autry and his wife Courtney, Clearwater, Fla.; 22 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews Charles Albert Jr., Leola Albert, Helen Jean Albert, Spencer Albert, Eugene Albert, Beverly George, William George and Ramona Walker.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, at the First Baptist Church of Yulee, with the Rev. William Goode Jr. presiding and the Rev. James Payne officiating. Rev. Autry will be laid to rest in O’neal Cemetery. His family will receive friends on Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home.
