Gene was born in California to Robert F. and Patricia C. Kellog Sampson. He attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah he received a Masters in Library Science. He was a respected reference librarioa at the Mansfield Richland County Library. Gene met and Married Cathie Brooks while at BYU. Gene was an active member of the Church Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint. In addition to his wife Gene is aurvived by three children, Summer Johnson of NY, Samuel Sampson of Charlotte, NC, Wesley Sampson of Shelby, Ohio five grandchildren.
