William Medcalf was Baptized on April 5th, 1741 at Saint Lukes Protestant Episcopal Parish, Church Hill, Queen Annes, Maryland.

William's parents, William Medcalf and Ann Lowther were married on October 7th, 1733 in Queen Anne's County, Maryland.

Abstract of North Carolina Wills: Medcalf (Metcalf), William, Amelia (wife); William, Anne, Emanuel, and Joel.I have done extensive research on William Medcalf, Sr. prior to Anson County, North Carolina and have come up with this life story to the best of my researching skills.

William Medcalf was born in or before the year of 1743 just North of the Welsh Tract, Prince Frederick's Parish, Craven County, Province of South Carolina.

At a very young age, William lost his father, William Metcalfe (of Winyaw) during the year 1744 or just before.

October 2, 1764, William Medcalf is listed in the Royal Land Grants from South Carolina for 150 acres South of the Great Pee Dee River. According to South Carolina headright and bounty rules/regulations... After 1755, heads-of-household could receive a hundred acres plus an additional fifty acres for every other member of the household. This would have to mean that William was married, but with no children at the time and the math from this suggests he was at least at the age of 21, which was the proper age for buying/selling land.

September 10, 1772, William Medcalf is mentioned twice in the estate accounting books of a Robert Weaver of Mars Bluff off the Great Pee Dee River. This being the last available record with the name William Metcalf/Medcalf listed in South Carolina.

March 27, 1774, William Medcalf is listed (for the first time) in Anson County, North Carolina with a land purchase of 200 acres for £40. (£40 in 1774 had the same buying power as $10,245.09 in today's money.)

June 1, 1774, William Medcalf is listed in a land purchase of 150 acres for £39.

1780, William Medcalf is listed in the estate of Cornelius Evans. William was neighbors Cornelius and his wife, Anne. Anne could be his older sister.

April of 1780, William Medcalf provided an unknown amount of beef in support of the Patriot efforts during the American Revolutionary War for £22 as per North Carolina Federal Accounts and Pay Vouchers.

December 6, 1780, William Madcalf provided a lot of supplies in support of the Patriot efforts during the American Revolution for 38 Spanish Milled Dollars plus interest as per North Carolina Federal Accounts and Pay Vouchers.

August 4, 1783, William Madcalph and his wife, Amelia are listed as witnesses in a Mecklenburg County land sale between James Cochran, his wife, Mary and George Helms.

October 6, 1785, William Medcalf is listed in a land purchase for 200 acres back in Anson County, North Carolina.

1790 Census Record for Anson County, Fayette District, North Carolina.
