Granville Beville 2234 UDC chapter's oldest member, Vera Sloan Boyett, pass on shortly before midnight on 23 March 2013. Vera was 97 years of age and was very strong up to the last. She had a stroke and it was a blessing that here memory was not effected. She was a strong lady and we will miss her.
∼BOYETT, Vera Sloan, a fifth generation Florida Cracker, died March 24, 2013. She was born at Bay Lake in South Lake County "about 10 miles as the crow flies" East of Clay Sink, December 27, 1915, in the same house where her father was born in 1894. Her parents were Manuel Sloan and Mollie Hunt Sloan. Her first love was her Savior and her Lord Jesus Christ. She was 14 years old when she gave her life to Christ in the Little Methodist Church at Mascotte under the influence and teaching of a Godly Sunday School Teacher, Mrs. Gale Watkins. After her marriage to her husband on May 6, 1933 she joined the Clay Sink Baptist Church and has been a faithful member for 80 years. She has been the historian for the church and cemetery since 1937. Vera held an office (sometimes all of them) in the church since 1935. She was the Treasurer for the cemetery and church at the present time. She was employed by the Pasco County School Board as a bus driver for 28 years, which was one of her many passions for young people. She also was the supervisor for 33 years in the cafeteria at Pasco Comprehensive High School where there again she worked with young people. She was a member of the Historical Society in Pasco, Sumter and Lake Counties. Also she was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and was a Past Matron of the Order of the Trilby Chapter # 89 Eastern Star 1970-1971. But first she was the mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother of the most wonderful family in the South. Vera was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann, her husband, Merle , grandson, Brady Boyett, her mother and father, Manuel and Mollie Sloan and two brothers, G.P. and Herbert Sloan. She is survived by by the following, Henry (Suzanne) Boyett of Dade City, Merle (Wanda) Boyett of Leesburg, FL, Becky (Paul) Akins of Linden, FL and Betsy (Dell) Morris of Clay Sink, FL, a sister, Louise Sloan Allen of Leesburg, FL; nine grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Services for Vera will be at Clay Sink Baptist Church 2:00 pm Thursday, March 28. She will be buried between her husband and her daughter at Clay Sink Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 27 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Lane Purcell Hospice House in Sumterville, FL.
