A fatal accident on National Road took the life of Nancy Steenrod and critically injured her step-son Lewis Steenrod when going toward the city their horse was spooked and their carriage went over an embankment.

Nancy was the second wife of Daniel Steenrod. They married in Brooke County, West Virginia on March 29, 1825.

Her funeral took place at the residence of her husband and her remains were interred at the Stone Meeting House Cemetery about four miles east of this city.
