Arie Verkuyl was my great great grandfather. He arrived in the USA in 1891, at 23 years old. With him was his young bride, Sieke. They lived in Mississippi, but moved to the Hanford, California area before their fourth child was born in 1901,then moving to Los Angeles County in 1930.
Arie and Sieke had five children; Peter Verkuyl, Corey Verkuyl, Joe Verkuyl, Clyde Verkuyl, and their only daughter, Anne Verkuyl. Only three grandchildren were born to them, through Joe and Corey.
Arie died only five months after Sieke, in 1951. The older folk in the family say it was from a broken heart.
