The Reading Eagle newspaper carried her obituary October 6, 1889, page 1. As follows:
Mrs. Amanda Kurtz died at the residence of her husband Henry Kurtz, near the Kurtz house, in Cumru (township), Saturday evening, aged 54 years. Deceased had been in ill health during the past 3 months with liver troubles which caused her death. Mrs. Kurtz was well known and had many friends. Her maiden name was Schwartz. She was a life long member of Yocum's Church and leaves 7 surviving children: Henry, John, James, Anna, Mrs. W.K.Shalter, Mrs. William High, and Mrs. Ella Shirk. Deceased was a sister of Mrs. Shearer, wife of Dr. J.Y. Shearer of Sinking Spring; Mrs. Hettie Shalters of Robeson; Mrs. Reese Davis of Cumru; and James Schwartz of Exeter. The funeral will be held on next Thursday, October 10th, and the remains will be interred at the Kurtz family burying ground.
