In the Fall of 1853, Felix Moss was in the process of moving his family from Gordon County, Georgia to Williamson County, Texas. He sent his family ahead as he had some business to transact. After he completed his business, and on his way to Williamson County, Texas, he fell suddenly ill and died in Cass County, Texas. His widow, Eddy Moss, settled his affairs in Cass County, Texas.
As Felix Moss left no will, on January 3, 1854 Eddy Moss petitioned the court in Williamson County, Texas, to be appointed administratrix of the estate to ensure the safekeeping of the estate as there were minor heirs whose interests might otherwise be compromised.
