Emily (Hucker) Rutherford, widow of the late Aaron Rutherford, died early morning of Wednesday (July 4, 2001). She was born in Buffalo, NY, March 18, 1909, the daughter of James Seaver Hucker and Emily (Hamilton) Hucker. She is survived by a son, Aaron, with whom she lived; and a daughter, Emily H. Hayden, of Fresno, CA. She also had a granddaughter, Molly Anne Rutherford, of Albany, NY; and a sister, Mrs. Edward (Marjorie) Wallon of Rochester Hills, MI. She was predeceased by a brother, James Hamilton Hucker, of East Aurora, NY.

Mrs. Rutherford graduated from the Buffalo Seminary, Mt. Holyoke College, class of 1930, and received a MSW from the School of Applied Social Sciences of Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH. She also did graduate work at the University of Pittsburgh and University of Buffalo.

She was a psychiatric social worker for 50 years, the most recent of her positions being that of School Social Worker with the New Haven School System, 1954-76. Subsequently, she spent six years working part-time for Glastonbury Youth Services.

Mrs. Rutherford was, until 1999, a member of the Unitarian Church, Hartford, and had through the years belonged to MENSA and the Hartford Writer's League. She was also active in Duplicate Bridge circles in the Hartford area and two book clubs.

According to her wish, there will be no funeral or viewing hours. Ashes will be interred in the Protestant Cemetery, Mackinac Island, MI, next to those of her husband. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Hartford County/Farmingdale Direct Cremation and Burial Society, New Britain. Published in The Hartford Courant on July 5, 2001
