On Thursday, January 28, 2016, at home in Rockville, MD after a lengthy battle with cancer, Nancy Jean Roth passed away in the arms of her immediate family. Beloved wife of Bradford Lee Roth and loving mother of Rebecca Ann LeClair (Kevin) and Andrea Kelly Roth (Ronnie), grandmother of Landon & Audrey LeClair, sister of Mary Lou McAllister (Joe), Larry Alexander (Sandy), Robert Alexander, Jr. (Karen), and the late Diane McLaughlin (John). She is the daughter of Robert and Ann Alexander of East Syracuse, NY who predeceased her in 1998 and 2005 respectively. She leaves behind in-law parents, Lowell and Diann Roth of Wauseon, Ohio, brothers-in-law, Brian Roth (Lori) and William Roth (Nicki) and sister-in-law, Barbara Stuckey (Phil), numerous nieces and nephews in New York, Ohio, Thailand and Virginia, and beloved first cousins in New York, Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia. Nancy's career in the field of medicine and patient care began with her graduation from LeMoyne College in 1973 with a BS in Biology, then continued at Duke University where she received a Medical Technology degree in 1974. She subsequently began her professional laboratory career starting with Rankin Ward at Duke University Hospital (a NIH sponsored laboratory), Greenville Memorial Hospital (Greenville, SC), and Moses Cone Hospital (Greensboro, NC). She furthered her education at UNCG in Greensboro, NC receiving the MSEd in early 1981. She loved teaching young students who sought careers in laboratory testing and protocols, and believed that quality laboratory work was an integral part of patient care. Nancy met her husband Brad at Duke University in 1973; they married in 1976 in Syracuse, NY. Nancy and Brad were soon to celebrate 40 years of marriage on February 28. They spent their early careers in South and North Carolina. Career opportunities brought them to the Washington DC area in 1981. Nancy's professional career in the DC area encompassed laboratory and management responsibilities at Capitol Hill Hospital, Washington Hospital Center and most recently at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Research Center where she served as the Administrative Manager of the Laboratory in Building 10. Nancy's hobbies and interests were broad and varied. She played guitar and sang with the group "Up With People" in her high school years. Cross-stich, needle-point, Summer and Winter skiing, and camping became favored pastimes before her child rearing years, then she focused on educating her children and giving them an appreciation of the outdoors and God's creation. She was an enthusiastic ice skater and a member of the cheer leading squad at St. John the Evangelist high school in Syracuse. She later enjoyed winter sports, skiing at Blue Knob, PA, Greek Peak , NY, and Vail, Beaver Creek and Steamboat Springs, Colorado. She fell in love with the Outer Banks in 1989 and was part owner of a cottage in Kitty Hawk, NC with friends Dennis and Connie Baggett of Suffolk, VA. It was Brad and Nancy's dream come true to be able to visit the Outer Banks several times each year to live under the 'Carolina Blue' sky and discover its unspoiled nature with their children. Nancy loved dolphin tours and seeing the wildlife on the Carolina Coast. She loved Central New York Summers and spent vacation time at DeRuyter Lake where the Alexander family owned property. She was an avid campfire singer of John Denver tunes and Peter, Paul and Mary music. She also vacationed in Wauseon, Ohio during June many years and enjoyed her relationships with her husband's family in Northwest Ohio. She was an avid supporter of the Kennedy Center and any form of live entertainment and encouraged her daughters to dance and participate in live performances produced by the Metropolitan Dance Studio at Montgomery College. Nancy was a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology her entire career. She was a devout Catholic and was a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockville, MD. Friends and relatives will be received on Friday, February 5, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Delaney Greabell Adydan Funeral Home, 241 Kinne Street, East Syracuse, NY 13057. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February 6 beginning at 9 a.m. at St Matthew's Catholic Church, 100 Kinne Street, East Syracuse, NY 13057. Interment at St Mary's Cemetery immediately following Mass. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Nancy's name to your charity of choice.
