A native of Syracuse, Mrs. McLaughlin lived in Bridgeport 18 years. She was a certified water-aerobics instructor and water exercise instructor and taught at New Women Fitness and Champion Pure Fitness Center in Cicero. She was a graduate of St. John the Evangelist High School.
Mrs. McLaughlin was an accomplished vocalist and musician and had taken instruction from Metropolitan Opera coach Renata Carisio. She was a member of the B-Sharp Music Society, an organization of professional women musicians at Munson, Williams, Proctor Institute, Utica, and the Syracuse University Oratorical Society. She had performed at Carnegie Hall with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra.
Mrs. McLaughlin was music and choir director for seven years at Sacred Heart Church, Cicero, and was certified as an organist with the Catholic Diocese of Syracuse.
Surviving are a husband, John T. of Bridgeport; a daughter, MaryEllen McLaughlin of Buffalo; two sons, Michael of Hardwick, Vt., and John R. of Tampa, Fla.; her parents, Robert and Ann Alexander of East Syracuse; two brothers, Larry Alexander of Chittenango and Robert Alexander Jr. of Minoa; two sisters, Nancy Roth of Rockville, Md., and MaryLou McAllister of East Syracuse; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 8:45 a.m. Saturday at Traub Funeral Home, Bridgeport, and 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Cicero. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, Route 31.
Contributions may be made to the Diane Alexander McLaughlin Scholarship Fund, in care of Sacred Heart Church.
