Gloria was born in 1926, the third daughter of William Adolph Paulson and Unne Augustina Anderson. Gloria's family also included the youngest child, a boy. The family traveled between Oregon and Wisconsin / Minnesota, settling in the Greater Portland, Oregon. Gloria attended Milwaukee High
School, which was just outside Portland. Gloria married Corbin C. Knight, who liked to be called Dennis. They had one child together, Linda Mae Knight, who was born on March 9, 1948. Dennis and Gloria divorced that same year. Gloria and Linda moved back home to Gloria's mother's home. Gloria married a second time to Loyd Laine / Lane Kenyon, in February of 1951. Loyd adopted Linda, which changed her name to Linda Mae Kenyon. Linda did not grow up knowing her biological father. Gloria and Loyd welcomed a second baby girl, June Carol Kenyon, into the family on January 6, 1953. Gloria and Loyd wanted more children, but it wasn't in their future. After her two grown daughters had left home, Gloria ended up divorcing Loyd. They had been married for over 20 years.
Gloria had worked full time, since she was 19 years old. She worked, full time, for about 36 years, working mostly as an adult caseworker for the State of Oregon. Gloria retired in her sixties and enjoyed being home. Gloria had met Roberto Avalos ("Bobby") many years before, and they fell in love. They lived together, until Gloria's death in 1994. Gloria died after two years of battling lung and colon cancer. She was only 68 years old. Gloria left behind her two daughters, Linda Mae Young
and June Carol Meyerson, and two grandchildren, Autumn Lenee Meyerson and Nathan Paul Meyerson.
As their mother had wished, Linda and June had Gloria's body cremated. Gloria did not want a memorial or funeral, and this was respected. Their mother had not told them how to dispose of her ashes. In the long run, June wrote a deeply emotional poem for her mother. June, and her husband, Ken Meyerson, hiked, with ashes and poem, to the top of Angel's Rest, in the Columbia Gorge. The poem was read, and the ashes were scattered and then caught by the hands of the four winds, which whipped wildly about. June prayed that her mother was learning to fly, and was at peace.
