Virginia Mae Pingley Bennett, age 98 years, a resident of Norton, WV, departed this life Sunday evening February 14, 2016, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born Sunday, June 3, 1917 at Lee Belle, WV, a daughter of the late French Alonzo and Heston Ann Rosencrance Pingley.

In December 1936, she was married to Ralph Ted Bennett, who preceded her in death March 27, 1961.

Surviving are one son, Calvin Ted Bennett and wife Brenda of Norton; two daughters, Delores Jean Haddix of Norton, Kathy Jean Schoonover of Elkins; one sister, Patty Stifler of OH; fourteen grandchildren, C. Ted Bennett and wife Peggy, Terri Lawrence and husband Rick, Lisa Crawford and husband Dennis, Rita Howell and husband Eddie, Chad Bennett and wife Feronda, Ginger Cunningham, Ralph Bennett and wife Sandy, Lee Bennett and wife Angie, Tim Haddix and wife Amie, Tamatha Snodgrass, Deidre Schoonover, Jeremy Schoonover, Karissa Corder and husband Louis Jr., Marissa Schoonover and husband Matt; twenty nine great grandchildren; and twenty great great grandchildren.

Granny had many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

A friend John Welch kept her laughing and feeling young when he would put her on his motorcycle and taking short rides around her home.

Her birthdays were always special even though she would always say, "I'm not going to tell anyone it's my birthday.

Preceding her in death is one son, Edward Lee Bennett; eleven brothers, Noah, Enoch, Wilson, David, Troy, Dorsey, Bob, Clifford, Homer and Harvey Pingley, and Junior Plaugher; one sister, Mary P. Mace as well as all her sisters in law.

Mrs. Bennett attended the schools of Randolph County, had worked as a substitute cook for Randolph County Schools at Norton, and was a member of the Kynette United Methodist Church at Harding.

Nothing was more important than family.

Her grandchildren were her most prized possession.

She enjoyed sitting on her front porch swing, visiting with family and friends, gardening and flowers.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 11 AM to 1 PM, Friday, February 19, 2016.

Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home, Friday at 1 PM. John Welch will officiate and interment will follow at the Phillips Cemetery at Jimtown, WV.

A special thank you to her many daily caregivers.

We are grateful for the care given to Granny by Mountain Hospice in her last days.
