Born Claude de Montfort-Laval. He was only 9 years old when he succeeded his father, and changed his name to Guy, as his predecessors had done before him. He succeeded his father in the county of Laval, the viscounty of Rennes, the barony of Vitré, and other lands under the regency of Jean de Laval-Châteaubriant (his fathers cousin) and Anne de Montmorency (his uncle). At age 13 he was married to Claude de Foix, vicomtesse de Lautrec. When he died of pleurisy at age 26, he had no children and the county of Laval passed to his niece Renée de Rieux.
