She married Herbert Francis Boyle on August 11, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois. She had three children by the time she was 25. Irene was an operator for Illinois Bell, and suffered an aneurysm while at work in 1960, severely impacting her speech and use of her left arm and leg. Irene and her husband Herb travelled between Chicago and Englewood, Florida during the 1970's. She died on January 22, 1986, in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 76.
