OSCAR LEISURE DIES SUDDENLY

Well Known Farmer and Stock Raiser Passes Away at Home North of City Today.

DIRECTOR OF ELWOOD BANK

Oscar Leisure, 55, died this morning at 9 o'clock at his home on the old Leisure homestead, north of Elwood, unexpectedly, and in his passing away northern Madison county loses one of its best known and best liked men.

Mr. Leisure had been a patient at the Mercy hospital for the past week or more, undergoing an operation for hernia while there and was removed to his home in the Clark ambulance Friday afternoon about 2:30 o'clock. He was feeling well and in the best of spirits at that time.

This morning about 7 o'clock he suffered a fainting spell and gradually grew worse until death resulted. Heart failure is given as the cause of death.

Native of County.

Oscar Leisure was the son of Nathan and Sarah J. Leisure and was born in this county November 5, 1874, and spent all of his life here. He was a progressive farmer and stock raiser, always active in all rural affairs in his community.

He was united in marriage to Hannah Wolfe August 14, 1897. Surviving are the widow, a son, Joseph; a daughter, Mrs. Esther Fox; two granddaughters, Jane Austin and Virginia Nell Fox, a sister, Mrs. John R. Peterson, of Swazee, and two brothers, George Leisure and Bert H. Leisure, residing near Windfall.

Director at Local Bank.

For a number of years Oscar Leisure had been a member of the board of directors of the Elwood State bank and was re-elected at the meeting of the stockholders last Tuesday night. He was one of the substantial men living in the community around Elwood who always displayed the greatest interest in the welfare of this city and helped to promote it when occasion offered.

No funeral arrangements has been announced this afternoon.

LEISURE FUNERAL RITES.

The Harmony Christian church at Leisure was filled this afternoon when funeral services were conducted there for Oscar Leisure, well known farmer, who died at the home north of the city Saturday, by Rev. Price Roberts, pastor, and a fitting tribute was paid to a good citizen. A long funeral cortege came to this city where the body was laid in its final resting place in a crypt in the mausoleum in the city cemetery.
