Mrs. Gertrude Peterson, 77, member of a pioneer family of Grant County, died Saturday at her home here. Under a physician's care for two years, she was found dead at noon by a neighbor. .


Mrs. Peterson was a life resident of the county and the last surviving member of the Nathan J. Leisure pioneer family of Green Township. The widow of John A. Peterson, she came to Swayzee from Green Township 23 years ago soon after the death of her husband.


She was a member of the Swayzee Christian Church and the Christian Women's Fellowship. Recently, she received a 40-year pin from the Farm Bureau.


Surviving are a son, Glenn, R. 1, Swayzee, and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Another son Ralph, died five months ago.


Funeral services were held on Tuesday at the Swayzee funeral home, with the Rev. Max Gleen, officiating. Burial was made in Grant Memorial Park.
