Mr. Virgil G. Key, age 84, of Auburn, AL formerly of Valley, AL, passed away on Saturday, 20 Feb 2016 at the EAMC Hospital in Opelika, AL.
Mr. Key was born on Saturday 18 Jul 1931 in Randolph County, AL to the late Joel Cephas Key and Tommie Jane McLeod Key.
He was also preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Faye Wright Key and several siblings.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, 27 Feb 2016 at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley, AL with interment following in Fairfax Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. (EST).
He is survived by his children, Larry (Karina) Key, Phenix City, AL, Lisa Key (Jim) Dunson, Conyers, GA, Joel Key, Valley, AL; grandchildren, Walker Dunson and Abigail Dunson; siblings, Glenda Jarrell, Robert (Sarah) Key; numerous nephews and nieces.
Mr. Key was a bass player and a member of the popular local quartet, The Wayfarers. He owned and operated Key's Appliance, HVAC, and Refrigeration Service for many years in the Valley. He was also an instructor at Opelika Tech where he taught Refrigeration and HVAC skills in the 1980's. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean wartime.
