Joel C. Key, 70
Taken by Death

Joel C. Key, 70, of 1322 South Court, Lanett, died at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital, Langdale, followig a serious illiness of one day.

A native of Carroll County, Ga., Mr. Key had been a resident of The Valley for the past 15 years. He was a member of the Plant City Baptsit Church. Mr. Key was a retired carpenter.

Survivors incude his wife, Mrs. Tommie McCleod Key of Lanett; three daughters, Mrs. Cooledge Jarrell of Lanett, Mrs. Boyd Moncus of Palmetto, Ga., and Mrs. Freddie Phillips of Delta, Ala.; five sons, Virgil Key of Shawmut, Oma Key of Delta, Virdle Key of Standing Rock, Ala., Joe Key of Opelika and Robert Key of Atlanta; six sisters, Mrs. Pearl Brown of Graham, Ala., Mrs. Nettie Anderson of Pine Mountain, Ga., Mrs. Palace Johnson and Miss Eula Key, both of LaGrange, Mrs. Floyd Jenkins of Phenix City, Ala., and Mrs. Jossie Bohannon of Carrollton, Ga., four brothers, George S. Key of Heflin, Ala., Lanier Key of Thomaston, Ga., Hayde and John Key, both of LaGrange; 21 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Plant City Baptist Church, with th Rev. L. E. Hand, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Shawmut Cemetery, with Johnson and Company Funeral Home of Langdale in charge.
