Artist, painter of portrait miniatures. Born in Rouen, Normandy, of a Hugenot family, he moved to England to escape persecution. He studied miniature painting under the famous Nicholas Hilliard (qv). He was married twice, his first wife being the mother of Peter Oliver, who followed his father's profession. Isaac became a Court painter for James I, under whom he completed many portraits of Queen Anne of Denmark and Henry Prince of Wales. Examples of his work today exist at Windsor Castle and the British Museum.
