Swedish patriarch. Also called Jan Petter. Andersson was a farmer and church warden born in the village of Nykyrka, near Nyköping, in the province of Sudermania, Sweden. His father was only in his thirties when he, his horses and carriage all were lost through ice that gave way on a local lake, leaving the widow to take care of the children (and grandchildren, too, eventually), which she remarried and did. Similar was the fate of Andersson's own wife, Anna Katrina Andersdotter, since he died at only 48 when the family lived at the litte Ersboda estate in Salem, Rönninge, nearer Stockholm, leaving her with their five surviving children (three boys had died as infants). The cause of Andersson's untimely death was not recorded. His burial at Salem Churchyard was, though, but the exact location of his grave there is no longer known. Anna Katrina outlived him by nearly 40 years, never marrying again. She brought up their smaller children at the Farneby estate in Vrena village, again nearer Nyköping. There is a very old photograph, probably from the 1860's, which very well may be of Johan Petter Andersson, but (as of November, 2006) it has not been able to be confirmed as such.
