Dick was born in Klamath Falls, Ore., in 1926 and attended Riverside Elementary School, where he played on the basketball team. He graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1944 and, while there, played on the 1943 KUHS Hall of Fame State Champion basketball team. He also played left end on the state champion football team.
After graduation, Dick served in the Army Air Corps and spent two years on a B-17 bomber crew. Upon discharge, Dick attended Oregon State University. After graduation, he worked in the plant engineering office at Weyerhaeuser Timber Co. in Klamath Falls, designing material handling systems. During this time, Dick married Doris Hahn and they later had two children, Kenneth and Susan. After six years at Weyerhaeuser, Dick accepted a teaching position at the Oregon Institute of Technology in the mechanical engineering technology department. He taught for 27 years and retired with the rank of professor emeritus. During this time, he took a one-year sabbatical and earned his master's degree at O.S.U.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; parents, Leslie and Helen; sisters, Gloria and Bessie; and brother, James.
He is survived by his son and daughtern and her husband; granddaughter, grandson, nieces and nephews and family; and lifelong friend and former professor, Fred Foulon.
