Richard was born March 27, 1932, in Altoona, Pa., a son of the late Millard C. and Martina Wombacher Stitt, and came to McDonald in 1950.

Dick was a 1950 graduate of Barnesboro High School in Barnesboro, Pa., and served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1957. As a young man, he worked on the railroad in Altoona, and later went to work for East Ohio Gas Company in Warren, retiring in 1997.

Richard was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in McDonald.

Mr. Stitt was a devoted family man, and he greatly enjoyed attending sports activities and visiting family in Pennsylvania. He also loved to cook, and he hosted weekly Sunday dinners for all of his family and for anyone who came to visit. He made the best gravy in town, and all were welcome at his table.

Richard leaves his wife of nearly 60 years, Catherine Betts Stitt, whom he married April 12, 1956; a daughter, Atty. Kate (Richard) Harvey of McDonald; five sons, Michael (Robyn) Stitt of Erie, Pa., Todd (Barbara) Stitt of Niles, Patrick (Pam) Stitt of Niles, James (Sharon) Stitt of Middletown, and Paul (Tegan) Stitt of McDonald; 24 grandchildren, Danielle, Desire, Dustin, Kurt, Rick, Maria, Colleen, Chris, J.R., Kali, Holly, Ashley, Amanda, Todd, Dennis, Nathan, Patrick, Preston, Cassandra, Eva, Gia, Samantha, Carley, and Alaina; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Norma (James) Abrams, Doris (Dick) Bates, Rosella Brish, Katherine (Gerald) Barkley, and Barbara Dick; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A daughter, Elaine Natoli, and a brother, David Stitt, preceded Richard in death.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, March 11, at Kinnick Funeral Home, McClurkin Memorial Chapel, 222 S. State St., Girard, where a prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m.
