Edith and her younger sister were keeping house for their father, Bert, at 1308 W. Third in Smeltertown when Edith came to close to the open stove, catching her clothing on fire. She rushed outside in a panic where a neighbor threw water on her to extinguish the flames but she received extensive burns which eventually proved fatal.
