Arthur "Arte" Edward Krenn, 85, of 366 Roosevelt Street, Fond du Lac, passed away at his home on Monday, November 26, 2007.

He was born on August 22, 1922 in New London, Wisconsin, the son of Joseph & Cecilia (Weller) Krenn.

On October 20, 1945, he married Shirley Elaine Sampson at the Church of Peace, Fond du Lac.

Arte worked at Vulcan Manufacturing for 25 years before retiring in 1982.

Arte served in World War II as a Tank Commander in the 1st Armored Division, where he rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a decorated war hero earning 3 Purple Hearts and 3 Bronze Stars. He also was a war correspondent. His war chronicles can be viewed at http:/krennpapers.com.

Arte was active in his retired years in the American Legion, where he served on the executive board for 15 years. He also was active in the VFW. Arte was a member of the firing squad for those veterans passing. He grew up during the depression and worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps, Camp Riley Creek, Fifield, WI.

Arte worked hard for the NACCCA Chapter 94 as recording secretary. He was instrumental in raising funds to erect the 20th bronze statue erected in the country (and 1st in the State of Wisconsin) to commemorate the CCC workers. The statue and building can be viewed on the corner of Park Avenue and Pioneer. He also played an integral part in fundraised for the outside display of the helicopter and armored personal vehicle at the American Legion Hall.

Arte participated in Fond du Lac parades. He could be seen in his uniform standing handsome and tall, and proudly waving from the tank that drove him in the parade. Arte also enjoyed visiting schools and sharing his experiences with the children.

Arte also enjoyed spending time with his family fishing, playing cards, or debating politics. He enjoyed sharing his views, (sometimes controversial - mostly not), about the world and frequently wrote Letters to the Editor in the Fond du Lac Reporter.
