DEATH BY DROWNING.

Young Joseph McDonald Drowned in a Ravine Near the Locker Bridge.

Yesterday evening a young name named Joseph McDonald was drowned near the Lockerman bridge. The young man came to his death in a peculiar mannor (sic).

He lived not far south of the Lockerman iron bridge, which was washed way, and he was attempting to swim across a ravine in which the water was backed up so that he would be able to go to the former site of the bridge. This occurred on the south side of the river. The water was about fifteen feet deep, 300 feet wide, and he had scarcely reached the center of the expanse of water, when, as it is supposed, he was seized by [a] cramp, and sank never to rise again alive. Some three hours afterward the body was found, and if the water goes down sufficiently to admit travel, he will in all probability be buried this afternoon at Cottonwood cemetery. The father of the deceased is dead, and the mother in Colorado, and there are none that can but fully realize the horror of such a sudden and untimely death.
