Paul L. McMahon, 68, passed away on March 18, 2016 in Boston, MA. Paul was born on October 23, 1947, the third child of the late, Dr. E. Paul and Bette McMahon. He attended Most Holy Rosary Grammar School and Christian Brother's Academy in Syracuse. He earned his BA in Economics from Sienna College while participating in R.O.T.C and he earned his Masters in Banking from Rutgers University. Paul served his country as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army, stationed in Vietnam from 1971 to 1972. Paul began a career in banking at Merchants National Bank, Syracuse, NY and continued his banking career in Boston, MA. He taught business at Quincy Junior College from 1982 to 1985 because it was an "Irishman's dream to teach, you had a captive audience to listen to you talk." Paul ended his career when he retired from Fidelity Mutual in 2013. He was also a daily Communicant at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Norfolk, MA. Paul was an avid sports fan; he played in Syracuse City Recreational Football League, winning 2 city championships. He played rugby for 28 years, first with the Syracuse Harlequins and later, the Boston Old Boys and he refereed for five years. Paul also ran the Boston Marathon in 1984 and 1985. Paul was predeceased by his sister, Ellen Elizabeth Mahar and brother-in-law, Jay Mahar. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Louise McMahon; two children, son, Paul Jeffrey "P.J." of New York, NY; daughter, Kelly Ellen McMahon (Jon Wanders) of Mills, MA; granddaughters, Grace Elizabeth, and Julia Jeanne Wanders; six siblings, Ann Marie (David) Curtin of Fairfield, CT, Margaret (Charles) Rauch of Camillus, NY, Christine McMahon, Joseph (Linda) McMahon, Elizabeth McMahon and Peter (Liz Strodel) all of Syracuse, NY; many aunts, uncles, several nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Most Holy Rosary Church, 111 Roberts Ave, Syracuse. Calling hours will be on Monday at the church from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in honor of Paul McMahon to the Fisher House, 111 Rockville Pike #420, Rockville, MD 20850; and St. Jude Parish, P.O. Box 305, Norfolk, MA 02056.
