Sophia Goss passed away on Saturday, March 26th 2016, at the age of 65, in her home in Firestone. She was born to the late Doris and Ray Goss on Monday, February 12th 1951 in Columbus, Mississippi. Sophia was a kind and loving mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother who was always there for her family and friends.
Sophia was an artist with a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from Louisiana Tech, who spent much of her career teaching art, and painting in various medias. Sophia was also an accomplished writer who spent many years writing for the Register Call in Central City. Sophia also published a children’s book titled The Secret Legend of Birdbear, and was in the process of continuing the story of Birdbear. Sophia was a Baha’i and always enjoyed going to Feast and Fireside, she also observed the Fast every year of her life as a Baha’i.
She is survived by her son Thomas Ward his wife Nicole Mayo-Ward, their children Kierian Prince, Keira Ward, and her step children from her late husband Albert Dawkins, Mary Dawkins, Bruce Dawkins his wife Laurie Dawkins, Graham Dawkins his wife Amanda Dawkins and their child Harper Dawkins, Michael Dawkins, Benjamin Dawkins, Mattheu Dawkins and his wife Mariel Esparza and their children Sebastian Dawkins Nicholas Dawkins and Diego Esparza.
A Visitation will be held from 10:30 am - 11:30 am, Friday, April 1, 2016, Carroll-Lewellen Funeral Home Chapel, 503 Terry St., Longmont, CO. Burial will follow the Visitation at 1:15 pm, Friday, April 1, 2016, Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area A, Denver, CO.
