Erik Pedersen, 95, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2016, at The Manor Nursing Home in Freehold, NJ, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Denmark in 1920 and emigrated to America in 1929. He lived most of his life in Keyport, NJ. He, his brother Ivan, and their father were the owners of Hans Pedersen & Sons, the Jersey Shore's preeminent wooden boat builders. Erik was a World War II combat veteran; he served with the 533rd Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment in the South Pacific and was decorated with the Soldier's Medal for bravery and the Purple Heart. Erik's great passion was hunting. He also loved spending time with his family and lifelong friends, and enjoyed recounting his adventures.
Erik was predeceased by his parents, Hans and Kirsten, by his brother Ivan, his sisters Anne, Ella, and Greta, and his nephew, Rob. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, daughters April, Laura, and Amy, son Richard, grandchildren Jeff, Jessica, and Chelsea, and a great-granddaughter.
The family wishes to thank Raymond Nagle, Kurt and Linda Archer, Robert Weigand, and Carol Mizell for their frequent visits and support.
Internment with military honors will take place on April 13 at 11 a.m. at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery on Province Line Road in Arneytown, North Hanover Township, Burlington County. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the family can be made to the Wells Fargo Bank c/o M. Pedersen.
