Elihu Barnum died at his home near Isabel (sic), Oklahoma, March 31, 1915, aged 87 years, three months and 21 days, leaving three children, Mrs. C. W. Muzzy, Oklahoma City; John, Isabel, Oklahoma, and Arba; 16 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Mr. Barnum was one of the pioneers of the Delphos Country, coming here in 1874, making a claim about three miles northeast, just over the line in Cloud County. It is now a part of the Oliver Cook farm. About fourteen years ago he moved to Oklahoma, where he has since lived until he crossed over to the other side. Mr. Barnum was born in Vermont, Dec. 15, 1827; and married to Elouise (sic) Fuller May, 24, 1845. Eight children were born to them, Russel E., Arba N., Rose Ann, Ella L., John T., Lucy D; two died in infancy. Mrs. Elouise Barnum died at Isabel, Oklahoma, August 11, 1903. Mr. Barnum later was married to Mrs. Lucinda Faucier, who survives him. Mr. Barnum moved to Delphos from Elkader, Iowa, where he had long been one of the leading farmers and stock men. With other early settlers and pioneers he shared the vicissitudes incident to that work. He was a good neighbor and a cheery friend. Reverses came to him as to many another, but in sunshine or shadow he was always hopeful, cheerful, optimistic, which doeth better than a medicine. His later years were passed in peace and comfort, and allotted far beyond the usual span. (Delphos Republican, Kansas, Friday, May 21, 1915)
