Raymond Joseph Hoelter, age 96, of Granite City, IL passed away on Friday, April 8, 2016 at Gateway Regional Medical Center, Granite City, IL. Ray was born on September 5, 1919 in Granite City, IL, a son of the late Casper and Mary (Beide) Hoelter.
Ray was a World War II Veteran who proudly served in the United States Army. On December 16, 1967, Ray married Irene Clara Nienhaus, the love of his life at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granite City, IL and Irene preceded Ray in death. Ray was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City, IL. He had retired from Granite City Steel after many years of dedicated service. Ray enjoyed watching baseball games and was a UNLV basketball fan. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents and wife, Ray was preceded in death his sister, Lucille Branding and three brothers, Edward, Lawrence and George Hoelter.
He is survived by his loving brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Roselee Hoelter of Granite City, IL; many dear nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL.
In celebration of his life, a funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Jeff Holtman officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Edwardsville, IL.
Memorial donations may be given in the form of masses or to the Disabled American Veterans and donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
