David Henderson Harvey, son of Thomas Harvey and Frances Barclay Harvey, born near the village of Fannettsburg, Metal Township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. He was named for his great uncle and Revolutionary War veteran David Henderson Harvey, the name “David Henderson Harvey” being a familiar family name, and also found on an uncle, cousins and his son. He was united in marriage twice, first to Calista Everett, and after her death, to Mrs. Lucinda Odaffer, nee Morris, a widow with three small children. Along with his brothers, a sister and their mother, the Harvey’s came to North Central Ohio in the mid- 1830s, the brothers buying land in northern Marion and southern Crawford County. For his farm, David Henderson Harvey chose first parcel in Marion Township and erected his home on what is now Kenton Galion Road. Eventually his holdings would encompass over 1,000 acres. There along with each wife he raised his children, and stepchildren. Following the death of his brother William, he also cared for William’s wife and minor children. While county histories often over use the phrase “well-respected”, this applies to Mr. Harvey, who was a leader in the county in his lifetime.
