James R. Carter, 67, 4216 W. State St., died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1964, in his home after a short illness. Born Dec. 11, 1896 in Greenville, Tenn., son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Edward Carter.

Lived 41 years in Rockford, coming here from Greenville. Married to the former Geneva Downey in Greenville, Feb. 16, 1918. Employed as a guard at the Ingersoll Milling Machine Co. for 4 years. He retired in 1946, and since then has been a livestock dealer.

Survivors include; his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Doral L. Falconer and Mrs. Leon Naber, both of Rockford; one son, William E. Carter; four granddaughters; his father, H. Edward Carter, Greenville, Tenn.; seven brothers, Benton, Bruner, Joe of Rockford, Ned Carter, Roscoe, IL., Paul, Rockton, Calvin, Greenville Tenn., and Basil, Fair Oaks, Calif.; four sisters, Mrs. Montie Hunt and Mrs. Hassie Leming, both of Greenville, Mrs. Hattie Hume, Stearnes, Ky., and Mrs. Polly Estes, Akron, Ohio.
