Edna L. Strickland, 72, of Laurel, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Freedom Baptist Church in Jones County. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The Rev. Robbie Johnson will officiate. She was a homemaker and a mother. She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church, the order of Eastern Star, honorary member of Gov. Bill Waller's staff, manager of the voting precinct at Myrick for 20 years, and a master of crochet needle work. She loved her family, church work, working in her flower garden, and deer hunting with her husband. She was a Sunday School teacher. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Nancy Lee. Mrs. Strickland is survived by her husband, Dewitt Strickland of Laurel; three sons, Dr. Edwin W. Strickland and his wife, Janet of Waynesboro, and Dwain Strickland and Bruce Strickland, both of the Myrick Community; a daughter, Beverly Culpepper and her husband, Ken of Laurel; a sister, Marion Kennedy of Pensacola, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Carrie Lee Culpepper, Scott Strickland, Jared Strickland, and Colin Strickland. Pallbearers are Dr. Samuel Crosby, Roy Gene Kirby, Allen Walters, Gary Strickland, Gary Shedd, and Thomas Prine. Honorary pallbearers are Mark Skidmore, Edward Crosby, Richard Strickland, Richard Anderson, and Vernell Watkins. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, which is in charge of arrangements.
