OWENS, Alvin age 84, passed way Thursday, October 5, 2006. A native of Wynnewood, OK, he was a graduate of Frederick H. Douglass High School of Oklahoma City, with B.A. and M.A. Degrees from Central State University, Edmond, Oklahoma. Since the age of 15, he was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Oklahoma City, where, for some 30 years, he was the Minister of Music. He was a Chaplain Assistant in the U.S. Navy in World War II in the 34th Battalion, stationed in Guadalcanal and Okinawa. He was a Principal in the Oklahoma City Public School System and a licensed real estate broker. He was preceded in death by his parents, Annabell Vanzant and George Owens, brothers, Lillian Vanzant and Reverend Darnell Owens, sisters, Velma Berry and Wilma Berry. He is survived by former wife, Irene Douglass Owens, children, Attorney Alvarene N. Owens, and Carlton Owens, very dear friend, Kathy Burkharlter of Oklahoma City, nieces, Annette Williams, Brelina Williams, Sable Williams, Alena Williams, nephews, Stanley Williams, Westin Williams, and sister-in-law, Lucille Vanzant all of Arlington, TX, niece, Yolanda Neff of Chicago, IL, niece, Alena Williams, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral Service, 12:00 Noon, Thursday, October 12, 2006 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3211 Lakeview Avenue, with the Reverend Lutrell Rainey officiating. Interment: Woodland Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hour prior to the service at the Church. Ceremonies entrusted to McLIN FUNERAL CHAPEL/NORTHERN HILLS, 2801 N. Gettysburg Avenue.
