Jacob Abel was an early settler (by 1810) of Derry Township, Montour County, Pennsylvania, where he lived on the East Branch of Chillisquaque Creek near Strawberry Ridge, having removed from Northampton County, Pennsylvania after 7 May 1805.

His surname was also spelled Auble and Able.

Note: Derry Township was a part of Northumberland County until 1813 when Columbia County was formed. It became a part of Montour County in 1850.
