John Nesbit came from a Scotch-Irish Presbyterian family that goes back several generations. John was born to William And Eleanor (Wood) Nesbit near Ballybay, County Monaghan, Ireland, December 14, 1821. The family emigrated to the United States in 1827 when John was a boy of 6. In 1830 when he was 9, the family moved to what was long known as the Nesbit farm in Ballibay, Bradford Cty., PA. When he was less than 20, his father died, leaving the care of the family and farm on the boy's shoulders. He farmed the land he loved for the remainder of his life. He was happily married Sept. 4, 1850 to Miss Mary Fee. He was a faithful, loving husband and father. He was taken with pneumonia in late April 1893 and died May 8, 1893. He is buried under a stone with his wife, in the home and neighborhood they helped build, Ballibay, Bradford Cty., PA.
