Royal Covington passed away on Christmas evening at the Emergency Room at American Fork Hospital from complications from cancer. He fought a long hard battle before being able to join his loved ones.
He was born March 19, 1914 in Torrey, Wayne Co., Utah to David Barclay Covington and Emmaline Amelia Larson. Royal married Dorothy Catherine Hilton September 19, 1941 in Pleasant Grove. They were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple November 3, 1948. She died July 14, 1991. He attended school and spent his early life in Grover, Utah. His family moved to Pleasant Grove in 1937. He was an active member of the LDS Church all of his life. He served in the Young Mens and in the Scouting program in addition to the Sunday School and High Priests. He served in the Army during World War II. He loved horses and was a member of the Pleasant Grove Riding Club for many years. He worked at Geneva Steel for 27 years retiring in 1972.
Survivors include his daughters, Cathy (Grant, deceased) Johnson; Peggy (Gerald) Bushman; Pleasant Grove. Sons, Richard (Ronda) Covington, IL., David (Rebecca) Covington, Pleasant Grove and Hilton (Mary) Covington, Veyo, UT; 11 grandchildren, five Great Grandchildren. Sisters, Faye Fordham and LaPreal (Cecil) Spray. He was preceded by Brothers, Roy and Douglas; Sister, Pearl and Grandson, Brian.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 30, 1998 at 11 a.m. in the Timpanogos 8th Ward Chapel, 745 North 600 West, Pleasant Grove. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 500 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to services. He will be laid to rest in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by District IV of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
