Graveside servicies for Martin Boka, 52, of Watsonville, Calif., will be held Saturday in the Concan cemetery. He is Mrs. Manza Hale's step-father. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning from Mehl's Colonial Chapel in Watsonville.
Mr. Boka was killed Sunday morning when the panel truck in which he was riding was hit by a train at an unguarded farm crossing near Watsonville. The dead were Lee McKerigan, 42, the driver and lineman for Western Union, of South San Francisco, Calif.; and Boka, southern Pacific lineman from Watsonville.
The two men had worked together repairing telegraph lines on the south side of the Southern Pacific railroad yard and were driving on a muddy road that paralleled the track when McKerigan turned left in front of the Del Monte train.
The train which had already made its Watsonville stop hit the truck at a speed of 45 miles per hour. The truck flattened out on the front of the diesel engine and stuck to the train for 1,100 feet while the train ground to a stop. McKerigan was pinned behind the wheel. Boka was thrown 90 feet from the point of impact.
Boka is survived by his wife, Mrs. Edna Marie Boka and a daughter, Alice Ann Boka of Watsonville, Calif.; stepdaughter, Mrs. Manza Hale, Uvalde; two brothers, Harold Basquez of Milpitas, Calif. and Dale Basquez of Santa Rosa, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Jubelt of Santa Maria, Calif. and Mrs. Jean Sashion (sic s/b Velma Fachin) of Gilroy, Calif.; and his mother, Mrs. Gracia Basquez of Morro Bay, Calif.
