MIDLAND — On May 6, 2016, Anita June Adams McGaughey was carried to Heaven by God’s angels and gently placed directly into the loving, healing arms of her Heavenly Father. She will be greeted by Marion (her husband of nearly 65 years), her parents, her son Mike and many other family members and friends who have preceded her. What a glorious reunion that will be!

June was born Aug. 1, 1931 in Brady. She married her beloved husband, Marion on Aug. 23, 1948 in Coleman. June was a devoted, loving Christian wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Crestview Baptist Church in Midland and was a powerful, devoted and effective prayer warrior. She truly loved her Lord, family and friends with all her heart. She thanked God daily for them as they blessed her life, just as she blessed the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

June and Marion had two children, Mike and Kathy. During their school years, June was room mother, Cub Scout den mother and Brownie Scout leader and taught children's Sunday school classes. She worked for Sears in San Angelo for 10 years. Her hobbies included beautifully decorating her homes, creating spectacular yards and gardens in every home she and Marion lived in, making ceramics, fishing, working jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles and playing games with family and friends.
June loved the Lord and one of her happiest memories of all was the joy she and Marion shared in helping to establish Glen Meadows Baptist Church in San Angelo in 1987. With nine other faithful Christians, God grew the church from 11 charter members to approximately 1,600 members as of May 2016. Marion served as treasurer and June served on the building committee.

In 1987, June and Marion built a beautiful retirement home on Lake Brownwood. In 1994, they moved back to San Angelo for a short time before moving permanently to Midland in 1996 to live in the same town as their daughter Kathy and son-in-law Pat.

June is survived by her daughter, Kathy Greetan (and husband Pat) of Midland; her daughter-in-law, Patty McGaughey of Houston; her sister, Patricia Moseley (and husband John) of Horseshoe Bay; her sisters-in-law, Fern Sheppard (and husband Waymond) of Bangs and Donna McGaughey of Bangs; grandsons, Steve Morris of Midland, Brent Atkins (and wife Christina) of Carlsbad, N.M., Matthew McGaughey of Houston; granddaughter, Kristy McGaughey (and husband Jeremiah) of Denton; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Ashley Morris of Midland, Brittany Atkins of Midland, Connor Atkins of Carlsbad, N.M., Maya Abigail-Reese Safarik of Denton; and many other very special nieces, nephews, family members and devoted friends.

June was preceded in death by grandparents, Guy and Augusta "Gussie" Adams and Joe and Rosa Shaffer Cunningham; parents, Wiley Andrew Adams and Anna Mae Cunningham Adams; husband, Marion Lee McGaughey; and son, Michael Lee McGaughey.
