Smokey was born on March 19, 1951 in the town of Weaverville, California to Theresa and Milton Silva. After Milton passed away Theresa married Wesley Carr who raised Smokey and his brother as his own. Smokey attended Weaverville Elementary School and Trinity High School before moving to Alaska, where he graduated from Anchorage High School. He also attended Shasta College and Chico State University where he enjoyed the study of entomology.
Smokey raised two sons in the town of Coffee Creek and owned the Forest Café which was the only restaurant in the town. As well as being a business owner, Smokey spent 34 years as a timber faller.
After retiring, Smokey moved to Redding, California with his loving wife Mary Silva.
Smokey was loved by many, if you were lucky to have known Smokey, you loved him…there was no middle ground.
Smokey's passion for fishing was known to all. He was an avid fisherman who loved to catch bass on Clear Lake, but his favorite was fly fishing for trout on the Sacramento River. He spent many days fishing, and spending time with his good friends at The Fly Shop.
