Denmark's first film star, dark-haired Viggo Larsen was a former career military officer who later ran one of Ole Olsen's movie theaters. When Olsen founded the Northern Film Company in 1906, Larsen found himself elevated to both actor and director, the company's first. His most notable success was the title role in the popular Sherlock Holmes series, which he also directed. Like so many of his countrymen, Viggo Larsen heeded the call of neighboring Germany, where he often appeared opposite Wanda Treumann. He remained in Germany through World War II, returning to his home country after the Nazi defeat in 1945, more-or-less in disgrace.

Danish actor, director, scriptwriter and producer. He appeared in 140 films between 1906 and 1942. Also directed 235 films between 1906 and 1921.
