REXBURG - Archibald Galbraith, 88, an early pioneer and farmer of the Rexburg area died Tuesday at his home at Lyman of causes incident to age.
He was born December 18, 1879 at Smithfield, Utah, the son of Edward A. Galbraith and Annie Sharp Galbraith. The family lived in Smithfield until he was about three years old. His family was one of four families to first settle in the Lyman area. He attended school there and assisted his parents in the development of the farm which they homesteaded.
As a young man he assisted in the construction of the school building which is now Ricks College, the building of the LDS Tabernacle in Rexburg, as well as the first stone church that was constructed in Lyman.
He met Selma Kjelin whose family came from Sweden in 1895 and the couple was married December 16, 1903 in the Logan Utah LDS Temple. Following their marriage he worked for others in the area for several years and then purchased the farm which they operated until his retirement a few years ago. In addition to his farming operations he was in a sheep business in conjunction with a son, the late Orvin Galbraith.
He was a High Priest in the Rexburg LDS Stake, a ward teacher, and has been active in endowment work at the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
He is survived by his wife, Selma, of Lyman and the following daughter and sons: Mrs. Leo (Velva) Williams, Idaho Falls; Verne Galbraith, Clarkston, Washington; Ronald Galbraith, Davis California; Marlin Galbraith, Ogden, Utah; Lloyd Galbraith, Lyman; and Keith Galbraith, Rupert.
