Lola M. Jensen, 70

HARLAN — Lola Maxine Wiig Jensen, daughter of Chris R. and Louise (Knudsen) Wiig, was born Oct. 29, 1928, in Shelby County, near Kirkman. She was baptized Dec. 9, 1928, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church and confirmed in 1944. She graduated from Kirkman High School in 1946. After graduation she worked at Booth Enterprises for three years.
Jan. 16, 1949, she married Howard Jensen in Waukon. She worked at the Auditor's office in the courthouse for several years, then at a telephone company for a few months before going to the Engineer's office. The couple then moved to Hawaii. In 1967, Lola began working as a desk clerk at Reefs Towers. She planned on staying there for only six months but stayed until 1971 when she transferred to the Waikiki Outrigger as assistant manager. She retired in 1993. A party in her honor was held May 30, 1993, for 21 years of dedicated service. She lived in Hawaii for 25 years. Following her retirement she returned to Harlan, to be near her family. She died April 21, 1999, at Myrtue Memorial Hospital at age 70 years, five months and 23 days.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ruby Holland, and her brother, Howard Wiig. Survivors include her brother, Norman Wiig (Margaret) of Harlan; nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held April 24, 1999, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Irwin, with Rev. Sidney Flack officiating. Burial was in the Danway Cemetery with Rex Adams, Virgil Christensen, Gerald Fiscus, Crystal Pash, Helen Holloway, Glen Whitson and Janelle Fredin honorary casket bearers. Casket bearers were Terry Wiig, Richard Wiig, Larry Wiig, Robert Wiig, Gene Wig and Roger Wiig. Pauley Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
