German Businessman and Soccer Executive. Best known for being the long time president (and financial supporter) of Fortuna Cologne, which he led into the Bundesliga in 1973 and which was the team with the most seasons in the German Second Bundesliga. He was an electrician by trade (and once fixed the floodlights at the stadium so a match could take place) as well as a profession soccer player with Viktoria Cologne and Alemannia Aachen. He had a couple of short stints as the interim coach of the team, once famously firing Toni Schumacher at halftime. He eventually spent so much money on Fortuna that he had to declare bankruptcy in 2001 and spent the remainder of his life penniless.
