He was born in Mendon, Utah to Gilbert and Rhoda Muir. He was the first of four children. His siblings are Clark, Louise Andersen, and Joyce Whitsel. Don attended school in Mendon and Wellsville. When he found he was smarter than the teachers, he quit school and started his working career. Much to the relief of his teachers!
He ventured to California to join the Merchant Marines where he served until the end of World War II. He then returned to Cache Valley where he met Ariene Murray of Preston, ID and they married in August of 1948. From this marriage, Dawna Muir Talbot was born. Arlene passed away a short time after Dawna's birth.
Don then married Mary Jean Nielson (deceased) in November of 1951. Don and Mary Jean had 4 children: Michael, Marsha, Marilyn, and Robin.
On October 11, 2010, Don married Janice Eskelson who has been his true companion and love of his life for the last 7 years.
Don lived the true cowboy life where he rode bulls and broncs in the rodeos as a young man in the western states but he eventually chose a career with Garret AirResearch Mfg. in California where he worked for 19 years. Upon his return to Cache Valley, he managed the Eagles Lodge for 10 years and then worked at Weathershield until retirement.
Don could be found fishing the waters of Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and Alaska with his family as often as possible. He was a regular at the Silver King Lodge near Ketchikan, Alaska, and other great fishing spots in Alaska for more than 20 years. He enjoyed hunting and went on many family hunting trips over the years.

His children Dawna (DelRa) Talbot, Marilyn (Joe) Jolicoeur, and Marsha Muir; son-in-law, Fred Smith and daughter-in-law, Jody (Muir) Riggs and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
