Malcolm was the son of George Mogg and Elizabeth Stapleton of Devon, England. He was the youngest of 13 children born in Ontario, Canada and came to Michigan in the 1870's.

His first wife was Dedimiah Sofia Prout 1877-1899, married July 4, 1893 in Mt. Pleasant. They had one daughter Norah Mogg Ouderkirk 1898-1923 and another non-living infant noted on Detty's death record.

After Detty's death Mack married Charity Anna Johnson in 1906. They lived and farmed in Norwich until his death.
