Dorothy “Dot” Pruitt Johnson, age 92, of 803 Camellia Drive, Anderson, SC, died at AnMed Health Medical Center on Saturday, June 4, 2016. She was the widow of W. Theo Johnson and the daughter of the late Charlie and Lizzie Dockins Pruitt.
Born in Anderson, SC on December 31, 1923, she was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church where she attended her entire life. She was a member of Alathean Sunday School class and former member of the Reflection Choir. She was a 1940 graduate of T.L. Hanna High School and attended School of Commerce, in Anderson, SC. She retired from the S.C. Probation, Parole, and Pardon Board from the Anderson County office after 34 years of service. She was one of the first women in SC to be employed as an agent.
She is survived by daughters, Connie Hughes, of Fountain Inn, SC, Vicky Parks and her husband, Larry, of Iva, SC; a son, Charlie W. Whiten, Jr. and his wife, Carla, of Anderson, SC; a step-son, Mark Strickland and his wife, Debbie, of Charleston, SC. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Hazel Stowers, Annie Broadwell; two brothers-in-law, Melvin Broadwell, and Marion Stowers; a great-grandson, Jeremy Vickery; and a great-granddaughter, Kayla Boggs.
The funeral service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Alathean Sunday School Class of Oakwood Baptist Church.
The family will be at 803 Camellia Drive, Anderson, SC. They will receive friends at the funeral home, prior to the service on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to Oakwood Baptist Church, 304 Pearman Dairy Road, Anderson, SC 29625; or to the charity of one’s choice.
