Samuel McBride served under General Andrew Jackson either against the Seminoles or at the Battle of New Orleans, and he did help to build the Military Road. He was Justice of the Peace in Lawrence County, and also at various times he was elder and trustee of Pleasant Garden Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He operated the stage-coach station on the Military Road, supplying fresh horses for the stage, meals and sometimes lodging for travelers. Samuel's father was born in Ireland.
