Stephen Joseph Faherty, son of Stephen Faherty and Mary Gill, was a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He and his siblings were orphaned, their parents dying in 1907 and 1911, respectively. The children were split up after the 1907 death of their father. Stephen was raised by his maternal uncle Patrick Joseph Gill, while his sisters were taken in by his paternal aunts. Margaret was raised by Mary Faherty Connor and Anna by Bridget Faherty Mahon. Stephen enlisted in the Navy in 1917, serving until 1922. In 1929, he married Loretta Wilson, daughter of Joseph Wilson and Barbara Fehn. Stephen died at the age of 52 and was interred in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in Langhorne, Pennsylvania on 12 May 1950.
